Rock Therapy Lessons from This Song

What I appreciate about this song is the compassionate insight underlying the problem behaviors of others or ourselves. There is this line in a favorite hymn of mine, “In the quiet heart is hidden sorrow that the eye can’t see” (Lord, I Would Follow Thee). It is a good reminder that “bad” people often have gone through rough times and hurt deeply inside. “Letting that ego drop, let your feelings show” to me isn’t just about the people with the problems he’s singing about dropping their ego and letting their feelings out; I think there’s a double directive for us as the judge of those people to let our own egos drop, we aren’t better than them, and to show our feelings of compassion towards them. None of us are above others. As the old saying of humility goes, “But for the Grace of God go I,” meaning it could’ve just as easily been me.
